"Everything is energy. You are energy. Change your energy and you will change your life, and the world."
- Kasim Khan

There has never been a time in your life, including when you were inside the womb, that there did not exist the potential, and strong likelihood, that your body and mind, would not be subjected to stress. Read that again, slowly; and let it sink in.

Within weeks after conception, your heart begins to beat.  You are alive inside of another human. Being alive subjects you to stress, and at this particular time; you are vulnerable to all the same stressors as she is. Even more so, because you are so tiny, SO SO tiny, and still developing. In those months, the stresses of life begin to affect your tiny body, and continue to intensify throughout the course of your life.  No matter what method of child birth delivered you into this world, it was perhaps, and very likely, one of the most stressful events of your life. That was, literally, just the beginning.

I know you may be wondering how this is relevant to acupuncture. It is, extremely relevant. Acupuncture is (arguably) the simplest, most effective treatment available to you today. Acupuncture treats YOU, not your disease or condition or complaint.  You, the you that you are right now, your mind, body and soul; began with that first heartbeat.  So, every single moment since then, has everything to do with your present health.

Here's my point; there have been X (your age + nine months, give or take) number of years for the energy in your body to get stressed and out of balance.  Every living thing is vulnerable, and we as humans, even more so.  To think we can decide whether or not to be vulnerable just makes us more so. The vulnerability you may choose not to express emotionally will manifest physically. Think about that. Every time you've tried not to cry, held back tears, allowed someone to treat you poorly, "bottled up your anger", "bit your tongue", failed to speak your truth, or any other moment when you chose to be silent instead of "emotional"; you have created imbalances in your energy.

"We cannot control what emotions or circumstances we will experience next, but we can choose how we will respond to them."
- Gary Sukarno

Like many well known quotes; we hear them, we may even repeat them, but often do not fully comprehend the truth of them; and their real implications on our lives. We are constantly making choices that directly affect our health, many of them negatively. Acupuncture is a choice that you can make for yourself that has far reaching, positive benefits, and rarely any negative ones. And as an added bonus, it can also help to reverse the negative effects caused by our less healthy choices.

There is no one who would not benefit from acupuncture. It is simply a smoothing out of your physical, mental and emotional energy.

"Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way.
This is not philosophy. This is physics."

- Albert Einstein

"Music puts wings on the human spirit."                      - Frank Sinatra

I have been in love with music for as long as I can remember.  It brings me great joy, that through and acupuncture and yoga; I am able to utilize my love of music as a way to connect with my patients and students.

Music is incredible in it's ability to awaken the senses, inspire the soul and quiet the mind.  It's a common opinion that music is distracting in a yoga practice, and while I  appreciate and understand the value of silence; I also find music to be incredibly therapeutic.  The problem I find, is that silence, in a yoga practice, can be incredibly loud.  In the vast space that silence creates, our minds wander wildly, leaving very few moments to be spent in the present.  Music holds your attention, which allows for a cerebral experience of the present moment; one that has the ability to affect real and lasting change.  It is this kind of experience that ultimately leads to healing of physical, mental and emotional dis-ease. The immense capacity of our minds is a blessing and a curse.  They hold so much about the past and the future, distracting us away from the moment that truly matters.

Our senses connect us to the outside world, and when combined with a practice of mindfulness, they provide a bridge between our mind and physical body. Understanding how the stimuli of the world around us affects shifts in the energy within us, is a powerful way to learn about ourselves. That kind of understanding is the only way to truly be able to take control of your health ... your life.

Music, unique in it's ability to create a cathartic release, can bring about a shift in emotional energy unlike any yoga class or acupuncture needle.  The ability to let go, to emote, to be vulnerable, to release the emotions you have been holding onto; is essential to the ability to heal physically. Both acupuncture and a yoga work to unblock stuck energy. Music can encourage the physical purging of the energy that is released. Holding onto emotional pain will  keep you sick, and releasing it assists in your ability to heal. It all comes back to energy.  Where it is stuck, we need to move it, and what doesn't serve you, needs to be released. We are energy, music is energy.  I believe that music is medicine.
